Mariaville Lake is located in the Hamlet of Mariaville, Towns of Duanesburg and Princetown in Schenectady County, New York State. It is one of four lakes located in Schenectady County. Located at an elevation of 1280 feet and surrounded by wetlands, Mariaville Lake is approximately one and a quarter miles long and one quarter wide. It covers a surface area of 201 acres with 4.4 miles of shore line. The mean depth of the lake is 5.6 feet with a maximum depth of 13-14 found in the larger section of the lake. The lake is divided by a causeway which is State Route 159 or Mariaville Road.

A man made lake with a history dating back to the 1700's, it was originally formed about 1778 with a dam constructed across the creek of Mariaville by statesman James Duane to create a power source for grist mills located downstream. It was called Mariaville Pond after Duane's wife Maria (a Livingstone). By 1920 the lake finally took on its present shape and size. Mud Pond is an interconnected body of water, spring-fed, and flowing into the smaller section (east basin) of the lake. Most replenishment of water for the lake comes from stormwater run off from within the watershed. The flow of the lake's waters into the Chuctanunda Creek are regulated by a concrete dam.
